This third edition of Aircraft Systems represents a timely update of the Aerospace Series’ successful and widely acclaimed flagship title. Moir and Seabridge present an in-depth study of the general systems of an aircraft – electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, emergency systems and flight control to name but a few - that transform an aircraft shell into a living, functioning and communicating flying machine. Advances in systems technology continue to alloy systems and avionics, with aircraft support and flight systems increasingly controlled and monitored by electronics; the authors handle the complexities of these overlaps and interactions in a straightforward and accessible manner that also enhances synergy with the book’s two sister volumes, Civil Avionics Systems and Military Avionics Systems.
Aircraft Systems, 3rd Edition is thoroughly revised and expanded from the last edition in 2001, reflecting the significant technological and procedural changes that have occurred in the interim – new aircraft types, increased electronic implementation, developing markets, increased environmental pressures and the emergence of UAVs. Every chapter is updated, and the latest technologies depicted. It offers an essential reference tool for aerospace industry researchers and practitioners such as aircraft designers, fuel specialists, engine specialists, and ground crew maintenance providers, as well as a textbook for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students in systems engineering, aerospace and engineering avionics.

Review
"The book provides excellent coverage of the complete range of aircraft systems and is thus aimed at the professional aerospace design engineer who may have in-depth knowledge of a specialised area but who would really benefit from a broader appreciation of the workings and constraints applicable to all other aircraft systems." (Aerospace Professional, January 2009)

From the RAF Tornado and Apache helicopter to the Boeing 777, Ian's work has kept him at the forefront of new system developments and integrated systems in the areas of more-electric technology and systems implementations. He has a special interest in fostering training and education in aerospace engineering.
Allan Seabridge was until recently the Chief Flight Systems Engineer at BAE Systems at Warton in Lancashire in the UK. In over 30 years in the aerospace industry his work has latterly included the avionics systems on the Nimrod MRA 4 and Lockheed Martin Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter) as well as a the development of a range of flight and avionics systems on a wide range of fast jets, training aircraft and ground and maritime surveillance projects. Spending much of his time between Europe and the US, Allan is fully aware of systems developments worldwide. he is also keen to encourage a further understanding of integrated engineering systems. An interest in engineering education continues with the design and delivery of systems and engineering courses at a number of UK universities at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Don't buy the paper-back from Wiley-India.
By LS
Don't order the paperback - I was charged top dollar for this and missed the sticker on the front cover that says "Wiley-India Edition". A dodgy knock-off photocopied book arrived on my doorstep with an invoice for 8 USD, so someone has made-off with about $40 of my money. When I say dodgy product, I mean some of the pages weren't even the same size as the book cover. Wiley-India just folded the pages up so they fitted inside the book cover for distribution. I did what Wiley-India couldn't do - I pulled out a pair of scissors and cut the pages to about the same size as the cover, so less obvious now. Seems to have the content, but won't really know until I've read it. Generally poor condition product and now wish I had purchased the hard-cover edition from the genuine "Wiley" instead of the back-street photocopy knock-off publishers. Looked inside the cover and it says it is only authorised for sale in the Indian Sub-continent, so don't know why I was allowed to purchase it or where the rest of my money has gone.

Comprehensive Overview at an Engineering Level
By Peter A. Stricker
I bought this book to help train our younger engineers in aircraft systems. Although our company's various groups specialize in hydraulics, fuel and electrical/lighting systems, I needed a good reference for the other systems that closely interface with ours. This book fits that role perfectly.
The training went very well and the book was indeed well received. In fact, one of our senior engineers hijacked the book and read it cover to cover over a weekend, and I almost had to pry it out of his hands to continue the training the following week.
The topics that are very well treated include flight controls, especially the more electric controls such as the EHA and IAP. The fuel system and software development are also very well treated, but in fact all the topics are very comprehensive.
Most aircraft systems books seem to be geared toward pilots and mechanics and therefore do not deal with issues at a level that is useful for design and integration into new aircraft This book does that very well. The authors obviously know their subject thoroughly and I am grateful that they took the time and effort to create this book to share their knowledge with others.

Aircraft Systems: Mechanical, Electrical and Avionics Subsystems Integration (Aerospace Series (PEP))

Good information but needs more graphics and coloured diagrams to explain valves, systems operation. It seems publisher is saving money with black & white pictures and graphics.
