Uganda (Bradt Travel Guides), by Philip Briggs

Somebody once said that if you planted a walking stick overnight in the soil of Uganda, it would take root before morning dawned. Of all Africa's safari destinations, this is the most fertile. It's also the best destination in Africa for seeing a variety of primate species - visitors can spot more than ten types of monkey including mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. And if primate enthusiasts are found wandering round with imbecile grins, Uganda's birds have ornithologists doing cartwheels: more than 1,000 bird species have been recorded here making Uganda, in practical terms, the finest birdwatching destination in Africa. Moreover, in Uganda's premier savanna reserves, one can be almost certain of encountering lions, elephants and buffaloes.

Whether visitors want to climb to the snows of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, raft the headwaters of the mighty Nile, or marvel at the legendary tree-climbing lions of Ishasha, this seventh edition of Philip Briggs' much-praised guide is the most comprehensive resource available.

The ONLY guide for Uganda
By Mark D. Jordahl
I lead trips to Uganda, and this is the only guide book I use as a reference. I am a solid devotee to Lonely Planet guides when traveling in Asia, but for most African countries I have found the Bradt guides to be far more useful and detailed. This guide benefits greatly from the partnership between Philip Briggs and Andy Roberts. Andy has been living in Uganda for many years, and has a depth of knowledge that is rare to find in guidebooks that are generally written by people who have spent time in, but not lived in, the countries they are writing about. I am particularly happy to see more of northern Uganda included in this guidebook, as the region is now a safe and fascinating place to explore. Well done, Philip Briggs and Andy Roberts!

Simply great!
By Stefano Brambilla
Simply great! I'm a fan of Philip Briggs and Bradt guides - they're always more than useful before, during and after the trip. I recently "tried" the Uganda guide, it was the perfect companion of my adventure: informative, accurate, rich, dense, it's perfect both to plan and to know more about every aspect of the country. No other guide offers you the same amount of informations! Thanks Philip, thanks Bradt!

best background and cultural info
By Kathy
We had the 6th edition, not sure how much different the 7th edition is, but Bradt's Uganda guide has the best written background and cultural information that we read out of the available guidebooks while living in Uganda (we were there for 1.5 yrs).
