GREAT BOOK ON CALLIGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS !!!

What a beautiful book on Calligraphy ! ! It is pretty thorough, especially for the beginner. To get started, all you need is a pen, ink and paper. From there, it covers choosing a nib or nibs, that are inserted into a holder, that hold your ink. Of course, you can also use a fountain pen. It even covers erasers. As for paper, this is a never ending quest for calligraphers. Of which, you must consider the finish, characteristics of the paper, rag content, machine made or handmade-the list goes on and on. It is one of the most important choices the calligrapher can make. The author, Don Marsh. starts you off on basic strokes and then takes you into the "alphabets", i.e. the type of lettering you are going to use. Also, the parts of a page: margins, layout, alignment, multiple columns, line length & centering. At the back of the book, he has provided 22 pages of various spaced slanted lined paper on which to practice by photocopying them. A good book overall.

An old saw about Hollywood has it that if you scrape away the phoney tinsel, you'll find the real tinsel underneath. On the evidence of the would-be hiss-and-tell expos‚ at hand, much the same could be said of Donald Trump, the casino real-estate operator who's now adrift in a sea of financial woes. By the author's evenhanded, knowledgable account, in fact, Trump is a decidedly dull boy whose life story could as easily have been subtitled ``The Banality of Narcissism.'' The son of a top gaming-industry executive, O'Donnell (now 36) grew up in the slot-machine business. A sometime prot‚g‚ of Steve Wynn, he signed on with The Donald's organization in 1987. As chief operating officer at Trump Plaza, O'Donnell was in almost daily contact with his boss. If familiarity did not breed contempt, it eventually led to distaste. Trump at work emerges here as a cocksure boor who pays precious little attention to detail and pins the blame for his own misjudgments on subordinates. While he seems surprisingly dumb when it comes to weighing a deal's downside risks against its potential rewards, he apparently suffers from near- terminal overconfidence. As O'Donnell makes clear, however, his empire was built on an abiding faith in rising property values, an assumption that came a cropper shortly after the Taj Mahal's botched opening. And Trump at play with his yacht, helicopter, and other trophies is an equally unappealing eminence. A lover of gossip, The Donald has a phobia about germs, which makes him reluctant to shake hands with high-rolling customers or mingle with the celebs he adores and caters to. Nor does the abstemious Trump have a talent for extramarital flings. A long-running, oddly joyous affair with Marla Maples cost him his marriage to Ivana--and a good deal more. At any rate, O'Donnel quit Trump cold about a year ago. Now employed at Merv Griffith's Resorts Casino Hotel, he's watched from afar as Trump's sagging fortunes have attested to the truth of Hardy's contention that character is fate. Incredible accounting of how "the donald' rationalizes his misbehavior.....I'm mostly taken with how he treated the 2 year old Kentucky thoroughbred for his moment of satisfaction for his Japanese clients, forcing the horse to be galloped in training against the advise of his trainer, which resulted in the horse breaking down....AND then because it broke down 'the donald' refused to pay the $50,000 deposit on the purchase price.........he is truly the Disposable Donald.........sad......

What bothered me most about this revelation of the true Trump is his disdain for the common man, and the elderly people in his Casinos that he wouldn't give the right time of day, and who he cursed when they were out of ear-shot. But it doesn't surprise me. Trump sneers at everyone who won't kiss his feet. I think Trump is going to be in for a big surprise on Judgment Day, when he finds out who the real God is, and it turns out not to be him. Sad story of a pathetic man and his pathetic life.

It reads partially like a soap opera and partially like a business book

I bought this book, which was published in 1991, a few years ago as a closeout at the dollar store, and found it fascinating. It reads partially like a soap opera and partially like a business book. But now, it has new relevance, for obvious reasons. It ought to be put back in print. If you are interested in the REAL Donald Trump, don't read "The Art of the Deal," find a used copy of this book on Amazon and read it. You will definitely gain insight into Trump. Plus, this book is truly entertaining, even though it is describing events from almost 25 years ago.

Being a fan of Dave Grohl,Foo fighters and Nirvana I have read every book published on the subjects and nothing new is ever revealed .Most of the material can already be found in magazines already published however Nothing Left To Lose did reveal things about Dave Grohl that had not been revealed before as far as I am aware.The book was very interesting and well written.

As a long time fan of the Seattle scene in the 80s and 90s, I was ecstatic when the first Foo cd dropped. This book is a great read and goes into all the areas of Grohl's life and band while staying out of the private side that he treasures. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan or Grohl or rock-n-roll in general.

A Fun Read...

Being a huge fan of the body of work of Dave Grohl (or so I believed before I read this book), my family knew what to get me for Christmas. I absolutely loved this book. It was a very factual and fascinating read, littered with snippets from the man himself and those who have been important around him, including his former and current colleagues. It is also littered with technical errors that I believe totally should have been spotted by an editor (hence only a four star review), but I know I'm more than a little nit-picky about grammar and proper punctuation. The only reason I say that I thought I was a huge fan of D.G.'s body of work before is because I foolishly underestimated how involved of a musician this man was, so much so that he has a 16 page discography in the back of this book. I'm just glad I have more to discover! Overall (TL;DR version): a fun read for those who appreciate one of modern rock's finest talents.

About the Author

Robert W. Weinbach, Ph.D., MSW, ACSW is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina, where he continues to teach graduate level research courses in the College of Social Work. He is also a co-author of Research Methods for Social Workers, seventh Edition; The Social Worker as Manager, Sixth Edition; and is the author of Evaluating Social Work Services and Programs, (all published by Allyn & Bacon), as well as over 75 other publications and invited book chapters. He earned graduate degrees in social work from SUNY-Buffalo and Ohio State University and has worked in both medical and psychiatric social work practice and as a program evaluator.

Richard M. Grinnell, Jr. is a Professor of Social Work and holds the Clair and Clarice Platt Jones/Helen Frays Endowed Chair of Social Work Research in the School of Social Work at Western Michigan University. He received his Ph.D. in social work from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and for over the past 40 years has held academic and senior university administrative appointments in Australia, Canada, and the United States. He has published over 100 journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations, and 36 books. His two latest books are Evaluation for Social Workers: Foundations of Evidence–Based Programs, 6th edition (Oxford University Press, 2012, with Peter Gabor and Yvonne Unrau) and Social Work Research and Evaluation: Foundations of Evidence-Based Practice, 10th edition (Oxford University Press, 2014, with Yvonne Unrau).

which are pretty useful. Yet again

Only buy it if you have to. Any undergrad used to reading textbooks can tell within a few chapters that the author is just dragging out every aspect possible to make the book a little longer. Furthermore, the book is almost identical to the previous edition, only with some information rewritten and shuffled to different places in a chapter. Also, this edition takes out all practice and study questions which the previous edition had, which are pretty useful. Yet again, Pearson has produced another money grab which is "unethical" not to use. No one should be made to purchase this book. It is unethical; even tacitly criminal.

Not worth buying.

There are misspelled words in this book, and some outright false statements with regards to statistical phenomena. There's nothing whatsoever you'll get out of this book that you couldn't get by doing a topic search on the web for any particular statistical topic. (chi square, t test, normal distribution, etc.)

Skip this book if your teacher "requires" it. It's way too expensive for what it is, and all the information it presents is freely available via Internet search.

This book is incomplete. It does not contain the chapter reviews. If you have a course with required questions from the text, you will not be able to complete them. Otherwise the book seems similar to the paper version.

Uppaluri Gopala Krishnamurti (July 9, 1918 – March 22, 2007), known as U.G. Krishnamurti, or just U.G., was an Indian sage who spoke of his enlightenment openly. Although necessary for day to day functioning of the individual, in terms of the Ultimate Reality or Truth he rejected the very basis of thought and in doing so negated all systems of thought and knowledge in reference to It.

Question of Source and Copyrights?!?

U.G. wrote no books, he held informal discussions with small groups of people who came to him with questions. Others have recorded his talks and some have been published in book form -- all at his insistence without copyright! This book does not seem to have a publisher, no mention of who transcribed the talks, and no introduction, so I am curious who has printed and edited the talks in this book.

The transcription of the conversation with David Bohm is not rare, and this conversation can be heard freely on the internet at archive.org. The original audio is in the possession of friends of U.G., and anyone can find it on the internet. The conversation between David Bohm and U.G. Krishnamurti is also featured in `The Biology of Enlightenment', edited by Mukunda Rao.
