Hot, Steamy, Emotionally Raw

I couldn't put this down. I'm so glad I was able to get the complete series to read, or I would've gone crazy waiting for the next installment. The sex scenes were really hot. I love it when the characters are so well written that I really feel that I'm taking their journey with them.
Derek is a 31 year old, unmated Alpha. Usually by this age of you haven't found your Omega it's not likely you will. Which is fine by him, he doesn't want to be mated. While chaperoning his niece's party he smells a very enticing Omega. He goes off by himself to get away from it. When the Omega bursts into them room, Derek loses it and immediately bites Scott, the Omega, bonding them. He tries to mount Scott but Scott struggles to get away and is scared that Derek will take Jim even though his body isn't ready. Derek is very confused. One has are suppose to instantly want their Alphas. Scott tells Derek he's taking hormone suppressor. Derek is crazed with need so he has to call for help. They sedate Derek and begin to flush out the suppressor from Scott's system.
There are two schools of thought on having an Omega. The first, and original and conservative way of thinking, is that you own your Omega completely. He wears a collar and leash. He has no say in anything that happens to him. His sole purpose is to please his Alpha. He is no longer allowed to think for himself or feel anything besides what his Alpha wants.
The more modern way is for Omegas to have rights. To be treated as a person not an object. To have a say in the relationship and decisions made.
Derek is of the conservative way of thinking. His family is not and there have been plenty of arguments over it. Scott, being so young, is definitely all about being treated fairly. So they both are completely shocked at the others behavior but Derek has all the power in the relationship and he is determined to force Scott to do things his way. Derek can't understand why Scott's omega innate instincts are overpowering Scott's independence. Scott thinks Derek is a complete a$$hole for his way of thinking and what behavior he expects from him. Derek tries everything from spanking to a form of torture, the Omega box. This box is a form of brainwashing. It drives the Omega so crazy that he'll do anything the Alpha wants to make him happy, turns them completely submissive. After a couple of times in the box, Scott feels very uncomfortable if Derek even leaves the room. He starts thinking that Derek's way isn't so bad and if he continues to be a "good boy" then Derek will allow him to go to college and let him spend time with his parents and friends.
Scott's parents and friends are livid when they see the collar. Even though Scott tells them it's no big deal, they can't believe it. They know open-minded Scott would never think this was okay.
Scott goes to visit his friends, Ellie and Jackson. The three of them hug, they've been friends since they were little, so it was no big deal to Scott, although his instincts told him he should not be close to Jackson because he's an Alpha.
Things get completely out of control when Derek leaves work early to see Scott. Scott gets home by the time Derek normally comes home. When he Derek it's clear that he's drunk. When Derek smells another Alpha on Scott he completely loses it and goes to get the Omega box. Scott completely freaks out and jumps in his car to get away. Derek comes after him, chasing him down the street. Scott is so busy looking back to see where Derek is that he doesn't see the tree and hits it full force. At the hospital, Derek does alot of thinking. Scott's okay but he could've died and it would've been Derek's fault. He realizes that things have to change.
I left out most of the things that make this story impossible to put down. I took this emotional journey with these characters and I hope I've made this sound enticing enough that you'll want to find out about these two really great men and what makes them tick. Yeah, I called Derek a great guy because deep down he is.

Difficult

This was difficult for me to read. This has nothing to with the author and simply is my morals. That being said; I am NOT against BDSM themed stories. But in each of those books consent is very important and doing anything without consent is anathema. This book, while enjoyable, had very little consent, especially in the beginning. Scott was unable to give Derek consent about the claiming or even the subsequent bonding sex. That was difficult for me as well as the use of the Omega Box. As well as the collar and leash in public. I find collars and leashes to be very exciting in many different BDSM books. However, this was something that was kept either at home, or in a BDSM club. To go out in public, to meet your mates parents while their son is collared and leash was hard to take. Thankfully, Derek came to his senses and realized what he was doing was wrong. Unfortunatly it was too late for me to feel any sympathy for Derek. It was also a little too convenient that Jacobs mate suffered from being in the Omega Box and made jacob change just as Derek started feeling the same.

Cruel Alpha

I love D.J. Heart, but I can see why the other reviewer was turned off! Derek is very cruel to Scott, though he does eventually see the error of his ways. I really enjoyed how Derek came to change his mind about all his beliefs about omegas and how they should be treated the more he got to know Scott.
Still... getting to the happy ending was not easy for Scott. He suffers a lot, and I really hated Derek through most of this.
